Dr.Albert Forwood - Doctor of Chiropractic at W. Albert Forwood, D.C ...

Member At Large - Dr. Albert Forwood

Albert, a Delaware native, was raised with an awareness of his historic family settling in Brandywine Hundred in 1703.  His ancestors included numerous prestigious medical doctors, including a Surgeon General.  Another ancestor opened the first public school in the state in 1798.  As a teenager he was interested in health and athletics and was 2 times state wrestling champion.  He read the writings of Robert Rodale who wrote summaries of scientific, peer reviewed articles on nutrition, public health, and organic gardening.  Reading The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, including his 13 virtues, was singularly impactful.

During the 1960’s he participated in the civil rights movement and saw Martin Luther King speak in Washington DC.  He remembers the grief with the slaying of JFK, MLK and RFK.  He moved to Philadelphia and worked with the Quakers resisting the war in Vietnam.  He lost 2 close friends in the war and has great, heartfelt admiration for those who serve.

His great Aunt was the first chiropractor to practice in the State in 1920, and his mother took him to her for regular treatments as a child until the age of 11 when she passed in 1958.  During this time, he experienced Chiropractic treatments that healed his sisters when medical treatments failed.  In 1972, without any previous thought of a career in healthcare, he had a premonition and returned to the University of Delaware for Pre-med and received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1978.  He has observed the corporate takeover of healthcare during his career where large corporate hospital systems have bought up family practices and streamlined them, pressuring physicians for profit through enforced protocols.

Also, he has observed the growing corruption of our two-party system during his lifetime, that has polarized people and shifted wealth from the poor to the rich.  He is influenced by Nobel Prize winner in economics, Richard Wilkinson, who defines a root cause of our broken political discourse.

In 2024, Dr. Forwood volunteered with the Kennedy Presidential campaign, and the U.S. Senate campaign of Dr. Mike Katz who promotes improvements in the quality of our healthcare system.

He currently serves on the IPoD Board in an effort to return virtue to politics where possible.

In his free time, he enjoys maintaining his property on the Brandywine River in Rockland, swimming in the river, maintaining his health through daily exercise, reading scientific articles on health, and helping patients with a limited schedule at his home office, particularly when his treatments make a difference in a lengthy protracted illness.
