Member At Large - Ron Homa

Ron was born and raised in South Philadelphia. He comes from a close-knit Orthodox Christian Community of primarily blue collar workers. Many of which worked for the Atlantic/ ARCO Oil Refinery, including his Father and Grandfather.

After graduating High School, Ron attended Penn State University for a short time. Being extremely patriotic he later went on to voluntarily join the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He served as a Helicopter Crew Chief and was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal before being sent to Washington, D.C. Here he received a White House Security Clearance. His various duties included grading lessons at the Marine Corps Institute, Friday Evening Parades at the barracks from May to September as well as Tuesday Sunset Parades at the Iwo Jima War Memorial during the summer, Defense of the Capital, White House Full Honors Arrivals and Marine Corps Cordons in the evening at the White House. In addition, Ron was assigned to the detail which guarded Mrs. Ford when she was hospitalized. Ron was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant by the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Upon completion of over four years active duty, Ron continued to serve as an Active Reservist at the Naval Air Station Willow Grove, PA.  There he was back in the aviation field supervising the Flight Line for three years before going to Inactive Reserve. During this time he also had a full time job. First was the Veteran's Administration servicing Veteran Insurance policies, then on to a four year Electrical Apprenticeship at the Phila. Naval Shipyard. Ron spent 11 years at the Shipyard before resigning from the federal government. The next stop was Chrysler's Newark Assembly Plant in Delaware as a Welder Equipment Repairman/Electrician. Receiving classes in hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics as well as programmable logic control. Chrysler closed the plant in early 2009, and instead of staying with the company Ron took an early retirement to stay close to family.

At age 55 he still needed to work. He got a job as an Associate at the local Walmart, which got him into the distribution center in Smyrna, DE as an Electronics Tech. Ron worked 12 hours a day, Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the distribution center till leaving for Boeing as an Aircraft Tech in Aug. 2010. He worked on both the Chinook CH-47 Helicopter as well as the V22-Osprey for 5 and a half years before being laid off.

Rather than being released to the street, it wasn't beneath Ron to take on Janitorial duties for an income.  This lasted a full year, before being turned out to the street. As a displaced worker, Ron then took HVAC classes at Del Tech, as he looked for work. Another year went by after being laid off, until Ron was called back to Boeing as a Janitor in Feb. 2018. Three months later, Ron got an Electricians job at Boeing after someone retired. At the end of Jan. 2020, just prior to the covid 19 outbreak, Ron retired at the age of 66.

Now, Ron spends his time playing catch-up with the house, caring for his wife and being involved in the Church he grew up in. Not liking what has been happening in both the county and the state, Ron frequents his State Representative's monthly meeting as well as trying to be more involved in the county.

Ron grew up as a Democrat, but as he puts it: "This is not the same party I grew up with. No one wants to take responsibility for their own lives and people are constantly looking for hand-outs. God helps those who help themselves." Ron believes in fairness to all, and no special treatment. He volunteers his time with IPoD to try and make a difference. "People need to vet the candidates that are running for office, not just look at what party they belong to. It has cost us dearly."

Why Independent?

We the people see our political system as broken. Democrats and Republicans battle one another on a daily basis vs working together for a common goal. This, in spite of the fact that there are some who are truly dedicated to making better cities, counties, the state and country. Those excepting political contributions from corporate interests basically become bribes in regards to their political stance. They don't work for the majority, they do things to pacify smaller interest groups and in the end further divide us. Those are the ones who prevail in running the cities, counties, state and country. The Independent Party of Delaware (We the people), want the fighting to stop, problems that affect ALL to be identified and REAL SOLUTIONS to be provided in a timely manner. We want politicians who enjoy life long power, financial as well as personal gain, political influence in any way to be GONE!!!! At present, the longer that things go on as they are, the harder it is to correct the course and make the changes necessary to our survival. Keep tuning in to our website. We plan on pointing out those who work on your behalf, regardless of party. Point out issues as well as possible solutions. If you believe, sign up as an Independent to join the uphill fight. It's not about sustaining the Democrat and Republican Parties. Not about personal or corporate interests. It's about considering it a PRIVILEGE to serve the people you were voted into office to represent.
